At what temperature does benzene boil when the external pressure is 465 torr?
Benzene has a heat of vaporization of 30.72 kJ/mol and a normal boiling point of 80.1 degrees celsius.
ln(465/760) = 30720/8.3145 (1/353.1 + 1/x)
I'm not sure whether to leave it in celsius or change it to kelvin, and than change it back to celsius.
I got like 4 different answers, and I'm not sure which to use. I got 81, 97, 80, 64 (rounded to only 2 digits)
Since 1 torr is 1mm of mercury, and when the pressure equals the vapor pressure, the liquid boils, based on this reference graph:
I think the boiling point at 465mm Hg is about 64 C.
But this reference does include a curve fit formula for vapor pressure versus temperature in degrees C if you want to solve it.
